Messi wins World Player of the Year award

MADRID, Sept 24 (alsharqiya) - Barcelona captain Lionel Messi won the FIFA World Player of the Year award on Monday, beating Cristiano Ronaldo and Virgil van Dyke. Messi was crowned at the expense of Van Dijk, who was voted UEFA's best player in August, after helping to lead Liverpool to last season's Champions League and Manchester City runners-up by a point in the Premier League. At the annual awards ceremony held in Milan, Messi beat Juventus's Portuguese star Ronaldo, former Real Madrid and Manchester United, and led Barcelona to the La Liga title last season and was crowned LaLiga top scorer with 36 goals.
