Fadel Al-Gharawi: There is still no international agreement to protect the displaced

Baghdad-ALsharqiya, August 8: A member of the Human Rights Commission called on the Iraqi government to submit a proposal to the League of Arab States to conclude an agreement to protect the forcibly displaced.

UNHCR member Fadel Al-Gharawi said in a statement that there is still no international agreement to protect the displaced, and that there are guidelines for the protection of IDPs that are "non-binding" for states.

Al-Gharawi added that the call came because of the millions of displaced people in Iraq who were forcibly displaced, and their suffering is still ongoing, without realistic solutions that would help their voluntary return.
