Spain-ALSHARQIYA January 24: Dutch star Frenkie de Jong scored a goal and made another, to lead Barcelona to a valuable and deserved 2-0 victory over Elche on Sunday in the twentieth stage of the Spanish Football League.
Barcelona continued its revival in the competition, after achieving its fourth successive victory, to advance to third place in the championship standings with 37 points, seven points behind Atlético Madrid (the leaders), who host Valencia later today in the same stage, in addition to having two postponed matches.
On the other hand, Elche's balance stuck at 17 points, to remain in the nineteenth place (penultimate).
In the absence of the Argentine magician Lionel Messi, Barcelona captain, from the match due to suspension, de Jong assumed the starring role in the match, after scoring the first goal for the Catalan team in the 39th minute, before making the second goal for (substitute) Ricky Puig in the 89th minute.
This victory comes to restore some balance to Barcelona after their failure to win the Spanish Super Cup this season, by losing 2 - 3 to Athletic Bilbao in the final of the competition last Sunday.
