45 US senators support a proposal to prevent Trump's parliamentary trial

Washington-ALsharqiya January 27: 45 Republican US senators, meaning the overwhelming majority of Republican senators, supported an initiative to prevent the holding of the second parliamentary trial of former President Donald Trump, in a failed vote to stop the impeachment of former President Donald Trump. Republican Senator Rand Paul made a proposal that would have required the House to vote on whether Trump's trial in February violated the US Constitution. The Democratic-led House rejected the motion by 55 to 45. But even the five Republicans who joined the Democrats in rejecting the move far fewer than 17 Republicans would have to vote in favor of convicting Trump on the impeachment charge.
